Andrew & Jon's ride from Westcott

Following the overnight and morning rain which had fortunately stopped for all the ride, about 20 riders appeared at Westcott Church for the regular ride . The keen members were already riding just after sun up and appeared (Gary, Richard and Dave) bang on time.

The route planned was towards Leith Hill via road along Logmore and then up Coldharbour Lane, interrupted by a mechanical to Graham’s brake which was not fixable – (apparently an early bath for Graham except we were not muddy enough by that point).

By taking the first Bridleway on the left to parallel the road up to Coldharbour we rejoined the Road and turned right along the By-Way known as Wolvens Lane (stopping for puncture to Tony). Turning off at the crossroads with the Bridleway down to Squires Farm and avoiding a dozen or so parked prestige vehicles, connected again with Logmore Lane then through the lowland (and wet) fields of Chadhurst Farm towards Old Bury Hill fishery ponds.

On the eastern fringe of Westcott I contrived to lose back marker Jon and Mick before catching up with them and a revitalised Graham with a repaired brake at Milton Court Farm. Over the Railway up to Ranmore Road and past Ranmore Church where (after Richard and I punctured) we decided to save time and ‘road it’ to Westhumble and then along the A24 cycleway to Leatherhead to reach Bocketts Farm at just after midday for much earned tea, cake and an Xmas tree if you could carry one.

From here as time was pressing there were several peel-offs for a more rapid route to home, but a dozen or so made it back to Westcott (I hope Gareth and Marcus too) via Admirals Road (track) and up Ranmore Common Road (a tough road training climb) arriving back in Westcott at around 13:45.
