Off the map to Teapot Island

A steady pace was assisted by a westerly wind that took us through Surreyand out into Kent via Hildenborough, Hadlow and the somewhat unattractively named East Peckham to arrive after 40 miles at the Tea Pot Cafe on the island beteen the Medway flood barriers.

Excellent refreshments (courtesy of the best short-order chef many of us had encountered all year) were enjoyed sitting outside by the river and photos taken to prove we had actually achieved the intended destination.

Martin Bell claimed we had 'fallen off the edge of the world' according to his Garmin satnav but despite the flood barriers the waters didn't appear to be falling off in space.

Unfortunately, the wind was still in the west and much stronger (or was that our imagination), for the return via Golden Green and Leigh (the Kent version). The sun disappeared and the return journey seemed to last for ever as different riders took turns on the front for a total distance of 77 miles -  all in the dry.
