Hanging out together at Hurstpierpoint

A mixed bag of twelve cyclists signed up for the Sunday Social Ride hosted by the Duracell Bunny that is Mike O and ably assisted by the Energizer Bunny Graham H. These guys on their bikes just go on and on........

The weather gods decided to give us a good day on the road and Mike took us up Tower Hill, The Ridge, Hammer ponds and turned south onto Slaugham Lane, Albourne to Washbrooks Family Farm at Hurstpierpoint. The farm is set in a beautiful location overlooking the South Downs and within sight of the town’s impressive church spiral. (Note to G5, a must do some Saturday)

Joining us today was a young sailing man James who had never participated on a group ride but quickly established himself as a powerful cyclist with great potential if he turns away from the dark side and moves into the righteous force of cycling. Also nice to see Alan back on his bike and fighting hard every day this weekend to reclaim his fitness. Julia with her heavy “High Nellie” type bike was as impressive as ever.

The group stayed tight and controlled throughout and the craic was good in the peloton. People filtered through and engaged with different people en route. A brilliant aspect to the Sunday ride whilst clocking up those base miles.

After 45 miles, Mike let Stuart Bunt, James and I off the leash at the top of Brantridge Lane by the water tower.

Thirteen miles later at my Horley turn off we had clocked up an average of 23mph. Nice work lads. Home by 1315hrs.

The hen on the half door was certainly looking outside at us today. (Tea stop conversation)

Brian

P.S. The rest of us returned at a more moderate pace and arrived back in Reigate/Redhill at about 13:45, except for John C who insisted we abandoned him with a flat at the top of Turners Hill
