Steady ride to the Old Mill Cafe

Woke up to grey clouds, strong wind and a hint of rain, Saturday's glorious sunshine but a distant memory.

My hopes of an early return to a warm bed were dashed when I found 5 other riders waiting for me at the Drome. We decided to head for Wisborough Green, travelling south into the 20+ mph headwind. I gave my customary impression of a 1st World War general, leading from the rear. The advantage of leading a ride is that the other riders have to wait for you at the road junctions!

The usual warm welcome awaited us at the Old Mill Cafe where I had an excellent Tuscan bean and vegetable soup, ensuring I added to the wind on the way home.

We flew back with the wind on our backs and would have made record time except for three flatrs. Nick punctured twice; I was amazed to discover that he has learnt at last to change an inner tube. I hit a pothole and suffered a snake bite puncture.

Good ride, despite the wind and a brief spell of rain, good company, first class tea stop. What can I cyclist want on a Sunday morning.
