Considering Slippery Mud?

After watching the weather reports all week and gradually seeing them change from yet another wet ride to maybe seeing only one shower, at least the weather did us a favour this time and was clear.  But due to the amount of water we’ve had I spent Friday night thinking of changes to the route to avoid some muddy sections that always take time to dry out.  A few wet sodden patches popped up as they are unavoidable without a lot of road work, but mainly we spent our time on harder gravelly packed trails – a bit nicer with the amount of rain we’ve had.  11 riders started out from Epsom Downs, then into Walton, Tadworth, Kingswood and then up to Reigate Hill for a tea stop.  From there it was home mainly down hill, again on hard trails with one major uphill over Walton Downs.  Finished at the Tattenham Corner car park for just under 22 miles, but again (because I’m rubbish about letting people have breaks) at a reasonable pace, especially considering the slippery mud.
