Mist the Views

On a misty morning, 9 of us at first count set off for a short hilly ride to Domestique in Bookham. We started climbing from the off over the A25 towards Merstham and onto Rocky Lane where a second headcount was needed as the group had grown to 16! A quick shuffle into two groups saw Roger 'volunteer' to lead a second group.

More climbing ahead as we passed Fanny's Farm and dropped down to the Chipstead Valley where we took the long drag passed Banstead woods up to Banstead. Over to Epsom Downs, where unfortunately the mist was still lingering so no views of the City.

We pressed on and decided to take on Box Hill and yet again the mist masked the summit views but the tea stop was getting closer. A great descent down the eerily cyclist free Zig Zags was followed by the last big climb up Bagden Hill to Bookham.

Roger's group was waiting for us at Domestique having taken the Leatherhead route and we all settled in for some marvellous cake and chatter.

A flat return route was promised so we set off down Bagden Hill this time. Then off to Betchworth and passed the deer. The sun finally began to break through the mist as we headed back to the Drome.

Thanks again to Roger for standing in to lead and nice to see so many familiar faces as well a few guests from the G5/6 groups.

Apologies. The picture of the four of us remaining was taken back at the Drome, but at least the sun had come out.
